In this position, you will repair and maintain our water systems, contributing directly to the health and well-being of our residents.
Representative List of Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The list is not intended to be all-inclusive nor exclusive, but is intended to provide examples of typical duties performed.
- Connects water service lines to water mains.
- Places barricades, signs, and traffic cones around construction and/or excavation sites to protect operators and the public.
- Lays, maintains, repairs, connects, tests, and disinfects water mains, valves, hydrants and other appurtenances.
- Works “on call” shifts to assist with emergencies.
- Assists in cut-offs and reconnect service and work orders.
- Installs, repairs and replace fire hydrants.
- Taps into water mains, install and repair service lines and meters; set and retrieve meters.
- Excavates trenches and installs shoring. Detects hazardous conditions and corrects before entry.
- Performs line location when needed.
- Assists customers with issues related to water lines or meters.
- Ensure truck is stocked with parts and supplies, such as, meters, risers, meter boxes, curb stops, tools, safety vests, etc.
- Operates and repairs equipment such as backhoe, jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of water lines.
- May operate dump truck (with proper CDL license)
- Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with others.
Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses: Valid Alabama Driver's License.
Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $37,268.00 - $50,792.00 depending on experience. The City of Pelham also offers an excellent benefits package and participates in the Retirement Systems of Alabama.
