Street Maintenance Tech

Are you ready to hit the streets and make a tangible impact on your community? We are seeking a skilled and passionate Street Maintenance Technician I to join our dedicated team. As a Street Maintenance Technician I, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and functionality of our city's roadways, sidewalks, and infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your expertise while contributing to the overall improvement of our urban landscape.

Representative List of Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The list is not intended to be all-inclusive nor exclusive but is intended to provide examples of typical duties performed. 

  • Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from Crew Supervisor.
  • Cuts and trims trees, grass, and weeds on right-of-ways.
  • Removes litter from City streets and medians.
  • Operates backhoe to dig trenches, repairs yards damaged by water line breaks, and repairs storm drain pipes, inlets, and junction boxes. 
  • Repairs streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete.
  • Removes and replaces damaged traffic signs.
  • Operates lawn equipment.
  • Responds to animal control calls and is responsible for catching pets and wildlife.
  • Replaces worn or damaged parts, such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment.
  • Assists with City holiday decoration set up and take down.
  • Assists with demolitions and carpentry as needed.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one-month related experience and/or training.

Certificates and Licenses: A valid Alabama Driver’s License is required.

Compensation: Compensation for this position is $34,456.00 - $46,960.00, depending on experience, education, and other training. The City of Pelham offers an excellent benefits package.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.
