[ARCHIVED] Street Maintenance Technician I

Now Hiring - Job

The City of Pelham is currently accepting applications for the full time position of Street Maintenance Technician I.  This position reports to the crew supervisor.  This job involves manual labor of some semi-skilled and unskilled nature including both heavy and light physical labor in a wide variety of city activities as it relates to routine maintenance of the City’s infrastructure, such as, but not limited to:

  • Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from Crew Supervisor.
  • Cuts and trims trees, grass and weeds on right-of-ways.
  • Removes litter from City streets and medians.
  • Operates backhoe to dig trenches, repairs yards damaged by water line breaks; repairs storm drain pipes, inlets and junction boxes. 
  • Repairs streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete.
  • Removes and replaces damaged traffic signs.
  • Operates lawn equipment.
  • Responds to animal control calls and is responsible for catching pets and wildlife.
  • Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment.
  • Assists with City holiday decoration set up and take down.
  • Assists with demolitions and carpentry as needed.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one month related experience and/or training.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.

Compensation is $30,848.57- $42,043.43, depending on experience, education, and other training.  The City of Pelham offers an excellent benefits package.
