Requirements for Annexation Into the City of Pelham
- Property must be contiguous to the Pelham city limits.
- Letter from property owner(s) to include the following:
- Name and signature of all property owners
- Reason for annexation
- Number of single family dwellings on the property
- Number of people living on the property
- Number of people of voting age
- Number of people not of voting age
- Race of each person
- Legal deed and map of property thereof
- Vicinity map showing location of property and surrounding area with property to be annexed outlined or highlighted. Plot property in the City of Pelham Map Book located in City Hall.
- Furnish the name of the utility(s) currently providing water, sewer and garbage service.
Annexations are approved by the Pelham City Council. To be placed on the council agenda, the above information must be presented to the office of the city clerk at least one week prior to a scheduled council meeting. The Pelham City Council meets the first and third Monday of each month at 7 p.m.
Possible reasons for annexation include our excellent fire and police protection, use of city facilities including parks and eligibility to participate in city-sponsored programs.
As a citizen of Pelham, you would have the right to vote in municipal elections and participate on boards, committees and hold public office.

Requirements for Deannexation
- The property must be contiguous (adjoining) the unincorporated area of Shelby County.
- The following information must be included in your letter of petition for deannexation.
- A letter of petition signed by all property owner(s) requesting deannexation from the City of Pelham.
- A typed legal description of the property and a copy of the current tax notice.
- A vicinity map showing the location of the property in relation to the City of Pelham city limits.
- The name of the utility (s) currently providing water, sewer and garbage service.
- Name and signature of all property owners. If a spouse is a co-owner, both must sign.
- Include the address and telephone number for all property owners.
- The number of family dwellings located on the property.
- A statement regarding your reasons for requesting deannexation from the City of Pelham.
